Former Goodwill Site Toronto
Date: 2004-2006 Partner-in-charge: Robert Glover
In 2004, Aspen Ridge Homes acquired the former Goodwill site in east downtown Toronto. Proposed as a mostly residential mixed-use redevelopment, this large site
• lay at the edge of an old town area overlooking historic St. James Park,
• terminated a historic view corridor to the east along Adelaide Street East, and
• qualified for the King-Parliament mixed-use redevelopment plan and zoning.
Aspen Ridge held a design competition among Toronto architects, settling on Hariri Pontarini, and engaged Bousfields as the planning and urban design consultants. Together, we designed a project that fits well within the historic character of the area, positioning the taller, elegant parts of the building to best achieve the City’s urban design objectives.
As approved by the City in March 2006, the development, known as Vü, consists of 569 residential units in two towers of 15 and 24 storeys, linked by an 8-storey podium.
