Georgetown South Community
Halton Hills

Date: 1984-date
Partner-in-charge: Peter Smith

Bousfields has been involved since 1984 in the planning of the Georgetown South residential community in the Town of Halton Hills on behalf of Halton Hills Village Homes Inc. (HHVHI).  Upon full development, Georgetown South will have a population of 17,500, together with a mixed-use community node.

Bousfields was retained by HHVHI in 1997 to prepare applications for Official Plan Amendment, rezoning and subdivision approval to change the designation of approximately 140 hectares at the south end of the community (referred to as the Georgetown South Expansion lands) from Industrial to Residential.  Peter Smith provided evidence at the Ontario Municipal Board hearing arising from the Town’s opposition to the industrial land conversion.  The Board accepted the evidence of Mr. Smith and the other witnesses for HHVHI and approved the redesignation.

Subsequent to the 1999 Board decision, Bousfields worked with the Town to prepare a Secondary Plan and Comprehensive Urban Design Guidelines for the Georgetown South Expansion Lands.  The community design incorporated a number of strong urban design elements not previously employed in the Town, including rear-lane townhouses and roundabouts.  For the Mountainview East Neighbourhood, Bousfields prepared a phased subdivision plan, implementing zoning by-laws and Architectural, Open Space and Streetscape Design Guidelines.  Our urban design staff are currently administering the architectural design control process as development of the initial phases proceeds.
